How to Start a Vinted Reselling Business: A Beginner’s Checklist

Start small enough to learn your real costs and workload. A resale business needs accurate item records, good listing evidence and a plan for unsold stock.

A beginner checklist for testing a Vinted resale idea: choose stock carefully, calculate costs, keep records and check marketplace and HMRC rules.

Test a narrow category

Pick a category you can inspect confidently and source consistently. Learn labels, sizing, condition and authenticity signals before buying stock. Begin with a small test batch and record why each item seemed worth buying. A low purchase price does not automatically mean a profitable resale.

Create an inventory record

Give each item an ID and note source, purchase date, cost, condition, storage location, photos, listing URL, price changes, sale date and proceeds. This links the physical item to the online listing and helps prevent lost stock or mismatched descriptions. Keep receipts and platform statements with appropriate business records.

Check rules and tax before scaling

Vinted’s UK terms distinguish personal selling from commercial activity and set conditions for Pro sellers. HMRC says buying goods intending to sell for profit may count as trading; if gross trading income is more than the trading allowance, you may need to tell HMRC. The allowance is not a statement that no tax is due in every case.

Read Vinted’s current terms and HMRC’s online platform guidance. Seek professional advice for your circumstances.
